I am trying to install Win XP Professional(32bit) to a HP Compaq dc7900Base Model Convertible Minitower PC which has a Western DigitalWD5000AAKS60A7B 500GB hard drive.During the installation process I receive the message-A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to preventdamage to your computerIf this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restartyour computer. If thisscreen appears again follow these steps: Disable or uninstall anyanti-virus, diskdefragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard driveconfiguration, and check for any updated drivers.

I tested the XPinstallation CD on othercomputers and it installs XP properly. The optical drive of the dc7900is working as I usedUltimate Boot CD and tested the memory, hard disk of dc7900 which werefine.The office which had it before us was running Win XP on it.According to the linkI guess it is a Device Driver Issue. All that BIOS setting does is change the boot order.

The problem lies inthe INSTALL MEDIA. In your case a CD.

It 'looks' for the drivers in acertain predictable (to winblows) place. In this instance, a floppydrive. Unless you change the install media (write yer own batch files,much?) to 'look' for the required files on a USB drive (this requireshaving those friggin drivers loaded during the booting process of theinstall media BY the install media) it wont see the driver files on theUSB drive. You'd prolly have better luck finding tinyXP and using that.its got loads of options to get yer windoze on. (note, tinyXP may beliek illeagle & junk where U R)FYIHTH- // / / / / / / / // //.
